Garden Services in Helmdon, Northamptonshire
Helmdon is where we are based, so it is the village we see most often. Gardens here mostly belong to old ironstone cottages and farmhouses, with long plots behind them, a stone wall or hedge along the lane, and at least one mature tree that has been standing far longer than the house extension.
Working in your own village is a practical advantage. We can be at a Helmdon job within minutes, we know which lanes flood in winter, and we know which gardens sit on deep clay that stays cold into April. It also means we get asked to do the awkward jobs: reducing a hedge that has not been touched in five years, or cutting back growth that has swallowed a stone wall.
The work we are asked for most in Helmdon
The mature ash, apple and lime trees behind the older houses need light crown reduction rather than a hard cut, and we take every arisings away.
Stone walls and hedges run along most of the lanes, so we cut to a level finish and keep growth clear of the road edge.
Several older house fronts in the village carry wisteria, and a July prune followed by a January tidy keeps it flowering instead of running into the gutters.

Helmdon garden questions
Are you really based in Helmdon?
Yes. Helmdon is our home village, so we are on the doorstep rather than driving in from another town. That is why a first visit can usually be arranged quickly.
Do you work on the older stone cottages?
Most of our Helmdon work is on period property. Narrow gates, stone walls and mature planting all need a careful approach, so we use hand tools wherever machinery will not fit.
My garden backs onto open fields. How do I keep on top of it?
Field boundaries bring wind, leaf fall and weed seed. We cut the boundary twice a year, keep the hedge base clear, and mow at a height that copes with rougher growth.
